Mahabaharata gives Yudhisthira a spear and bheema and duryodhana a "gada" or a mace. This is highly symbolic of the characters of war.
A spear is the ultimate baton of power.A spear is also an arrowhead but needs guidance continuously to shoot.A spear always needs to be held in hand.A spear needs to be retrieved after it has done the work,During war the king throws the first spear, the long handle authorizing his kingsmanship. All this conclusions show that a spear needs to be handed over to a just moral and also a persistent king.Yudhisthira or dharma thus handled a spear.
A mace is the symbol of free will and power.A mace is non uniform, a spherical iron ball with a wooden bottom.A mace can break rocks but cannot pierce through.A mace of massive swing generates a disturbance in the wind.a mace is to be balanced from the center of gravity.A mace was thus ideally fitted in the hands of bheema and duryodhana.Bheema represents prana while duryodhana an a blind mind.Bheema is the son of vayu; the Power of Vitality, the Air Element in the Dorsal Center, or Anahata Chakra. One practices his Pranayama controlled the center , thereby calming the breath and controlling the mind and all of its sense objects.A blind mind(Duryodhana) is also vayu.He is fleeting, destructive, collosal and collective.Duryodhana had the support of a hundred brothers.A wind or a destructive tornado does not come at once instant. It grows in numbers and then strikes.Duryodhana struck when all the brothers the warriors favored him.A tornado has the eye in the middle.A strong tropical cyclone will harbor an area of sinking air at the center of circulation. If this area is strong enough, it can develop into a large "eye".However the strength decreases if warm air passes in or the eye at the centre is stuck.
This is an allusion to the fact that krishna asked bheema to hit in the middle to weaken duryodhana.
I have many other ideas.Others plz cntribute........
Bheema
